Reasons why you should run for Council:

  • you care about your community
  • you want to bring perspectives of your demographic to the decision-making table
  • you have new ideas that could benefit your community
  • you want to make a positive difference in the quality of life in your community

Qualifications for Office

All candidates must be:

  • a Canadian Citizen
  • 18 years of age or older
  • a resident of British Columbia for at least six months immediately before the day nomination papers are filed; and
  • not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from being nominated for, being elected to, or holding the office, or be otherwise disqualified by law.

Other important notes for Candidates:

  • You do not need to live in the area that you are running in
  • If you currently work for the Town of Oliver, you must take a leave of absence before being nominated
  • Federal employees must apply to the Public Service Commission for permission; and
  • You must be nominated by two qualified electors who meet the requirement of the Local Government Act
