The Town of Oliver, known as Canada’s Wine Capital, is home to 5,094 residents located between Osoyoos and Penticton, is currently recruiting for a seasonal position of Lifeguard/Instructor for the Oliver & District Community Pool season May 8, 2026 – Sept 5, 2026. Reporting to the Recreation Manager and directly to the Head Lifeguard and Assistant Head Lifeguard, the Lifeguard Instructor is responsible for ensuring public safety and supervision at the Oliver & District Pool, providing first aid as required and for the planning and instruction of quality Swim for Life and School Swim Program lessons. The Lifeguard Instructor will provide excellent customer service, support special events, and perform daily maintenance duties in and around the pool facility. Scheduled shifts will be 4 - 8 hours in length between 6:00am - 9:00pm (Monday to Sunday) based on operational needs.

Key Job Duties/Functions

• Deals courteously and tactfully with patrons
• Follows the Oliver & District Pool Safety Plan and established policies and procedures
• Responsible for the safety and supervision of the general public at all times while on duty
• Provides first aid as required and completes necessary reporting
• Plans and delivers Swim for Life group and private lessons and School Swim Program lessons including verbal and written evaluation and feedback to individual students and their parents
• Provides customer service including answering inquiries about schedules, programs and services; taking payments through point of sale and enrolling participants for programs and memberships
• Attends all scheduled in-service training and staff meetings and follows all established policies and procedures
• Ensures all areas of the pool deck and building are clean and free of hazards

Required Qualifications
• Thorough knowledge of and ability to follow all lifesaving and first aid practices and procedures
• Demonstrated water safety and stroke correction skills
• Ability to plan and deliver quality swim lesson programs including written evaluation
• Strong ability to communicate effectively with patrons of all ages and abilities
• Demonstrated ability to follow direction and work within a team environment

Minimum Training and Experience Required
• Must be 16 years of age and have completed the National Lifeguard certification course

Required Licenses, Certificates, and Registrations
• Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
• National Lifeguarding Service (NL)
• Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor
• Standard First Aid and CPR C
• Lifesaving Instructor and/or Fitness certification (preferred)
