Changes to Dog Access at Rotary Beach

For Immediate Release

Dog Access Updates

At the April 27, 2026 Regular Open Council Meeting, Council adopted amendments to Animal Control Bylaw 1224 that adjust dog access at Rotary Beach with an aim of achieving a better balance between recreation, presence of geese, and public safety.

Rotary Beach has been added to the list of designated off‑leash areas, allowing dogs off leash from dawn until 9:00 a.m., year‑round. Regular dog activity during these early hours is expected to help deter geese and reduce the impact they have on the beach area, while providing dog owners with an opportunity to enjoy the park with their pets.

To ensure a safe and positive experience for all beach users during peak periods, dogs will continue to be prohibited on Rotary Beach after 9:00 a.m. between June 1 and Labour Day. This seasonal restriction helps maintain public comfort and safety during the busiest months.

Residents are encouraged to follow posted signage and bylaw requirements when visiting Rotary Beach.
