Public Works

The Town of Oliver Public Works Department delivers a wide range of services to residents and businesses in the Town of Oliver and its surrounding rural areas. Further information can be obtained by clicking on the links under "Public Works" in the left border of this page.

The largest public works component in terms of both expanse and expense is the water system. Since 1989, the Town has operated both an in-town and rural water system extending  approximately 8 km north and 10 km south of the municipal boundaries.

Sewer service is available to over 90% of the properties within the Town of Oliver. Rather than consider sewage as a waste product to be disposed of, the Town uses reclaimed water as a valuable resource for irrigating the Fairview Mountain Golf Course, cemetery, some parks, the airport lands and some vineyards... 100% of the reclaimed water is now reused!

There are approximately 36 km of local streets in the Town of Oliver that are maintained by the municipal crews. Maintenance includes patching, major repairs, sweeping, snow removal, signage and street lighting. The pavement on Highway 97 is maintained by Argo Road Maintenance on behalf or the Ministry of Transportation and Highways.

The Town also works with the Parks and Recreation Society to help keep on top of weed control, mowing and other miscellaneous services for their parks.

The Town provides residential garbage collection services through a private contractor. Recycling services for Oliver, Osoyoos,
Okanagan Falls and their surrounding rural areas are administered on a cost-shared basis by the Town of Oliver. The Oliver and District Landfill is operated as a jointly-funded, town-rural facility by the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen.

In addition to conventional public works services outlined above, Oliver Public Works also maintains a municipal airport with paved runway.
