June 1st, 2010RURAL AREA “ONLY” SYSTEM #’s 4, 5, 6 & 7 BOIL WATER NOTICE TERMINATED *With the Exception of some Customers in System #4
The Town of Oliver is terminating the Boil Water Notice (BWN) issued on May 20th, 2010, for all Domestic Water Customers served in RURAL Water System #’s *4, 5, 6 & 7. In order to determine exactly which system you are being served by, please refer to the first three digits of the account number shown on your rural water bill. Recent testing has shown that water quality (bacteria) has improved and now meets the Canadian Drinking Water Guidelines and we are now able to remove the BWN and boiling water will no longer be needed.
*Some system #4 customers will continue to be on a Boil Water Notice (BWN) until further notice because they are still receiving their domestic drinking water from the irrigation canal system and have not yet been connected (swung over) to the new domestic drinking water system from the recent Twinning project. The BWN is due to increased turbidity causing POOR water quality in the canal water system. Re-Capping scenarios for rural customers: - Canal Water System Domestic Users in System #4 – continue to boil your water for users that are still not connected to the new domestic water supply,
- Domestic Water System Users – terminated BWN and the water quality is good for System #5, 6, 7 & some customers in system #4 who have been connected to the new domestic water supply.
The Town of Oliver and Interior Health recommend that all customers still on a BWN drink boiled water or a safe alternative until further notice. Water intended for drinking, washing ready to eat fruits and vegetables, making beverages or ice, or brushing teeth should be boiled for one minute. Boiled water should then be refrigerated in a clean, covered container. Customers could also choose to use bottled or distilled water, or water that has been filtered through a well-maintained treatment device. The Town of Oliver is taking additional measures to reduce risk. Interior Health has been fully involved, and the public will be notified when conditions change or water quality has improved. We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause, and appreciate your cooperation and patience during this time. If you have any questions, please contact the Oliver Public Works Office at 250-485-6213. |
