#becausewecare Project – McKinney Place
2020 was a challenging year changing almost everything that we did on a day-to-day basis. While these changes brought sadness, discomfort, stress and fatigue, the resiliency of the community to adapt to help contain the spread of COVID-19 is remarkable. Your generosity, kindness and support is demonstrated daily in our community. The #becausewecare appreciation project brought smiles to front-line and essential workers throughout the community. Oliver residents continue to shop local to support local businesses and these businesses generously supported the #becausewecare project – thank you everyone who participated!
As we look forward to 2021, it is undoubtedly with a degree of apprehension as we brace ourselves for a continued fight against COVID-19. However, as the vaccination program starts to roll out, there is reason for hope and optimism we will be able to return to some form of normality sooner than later.
The impacts of the outbreak at McKinney Place continues to escalate and is so heartbreaking for our community. I am very saddened to hear a total of 13 residents have passed away due to the COVID-19 virus, and I extend condolences to the families on behalf of Oliver Council. Our thoughts and prayers are with those effected by the outbreak.
I would like to extend a big thank you to all the front line healthcare workers, support staff and Interior Health Surge Response Team who continue to support the residents of McKinney Place during this difficult time. Your selflessness and commitment to put the needs of others first is an example of true compassion.
Oliver residents, on behalf of Council, let us continue to do our best to stay positive and support each other through this difficult time.
