Town of Oliver - Upper Park Rill Creek Wildfire

For Immediate Release

August 21, 2023

The Town of Oliver continues to monitor the Upper Park Rill Creek Wildfire given its location to Oliver’s boundaries.

Current Status of the Upper Park Rill Creek Wildfire

BC Wildfire Service and local fire departments continue to reinforce fire guards and provide structural protection. There has been minimal fire growth reported. The fire sits approximately 10km from Town boundaries. The Town continues to maintain close contact with the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen, Osoyoos Indian Band, other communities and First Nations, and BC Wildfire Service. There are currently no properties in the Town of Oliver on Evacuation Alert or Order.

As with any wildfire, fire behaviour can change without notice. The Town recommends that the community continue to monitor local media and register for VoyentAlert!

Irrigation Systems 1 and 5

Canal water users in irrigation systems 1 and 5 will be notified that the use of canal irrigation to create a humidity bubble between the fire and community can be halted. The Town thanks the many canal water users that turned on their systems to help protect the community by increasing the humidity in the air.
