Town of Oliver Co-op Avenue Reconstruction Project Road Closures
The Town of Oliver’s contractor commenced work on the Co-op Avenue Reconstruction Project on April 30, 2024. It is anticipated that construction will be completed by September 30th.
Construction activities have commenced that will see the road closed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for the next 6 weeks, due to dewatering. This work is occurring to temporarily lower the groundwater levels in this area to allow for excavation to occur in dry conditions, below the natural groundwater level. This closure will include all segments of Co-op Avenue east of Main Street, with the exception of access on Co-op Avenue to the No Frills parking lot and the Chevron Station.
Construction activities will take place between 7:00am and 6:00pm Monday through Friday, with Saturday work from 9:00am to 5:00pm as needed. Local business traffic will continue to have intermittent access, however alternate arrangements should be made whenever possible. Additional updates will be communicated as they are available.
The Co-op Avenue reconstruction project will bring multifaceted benefits to our community including 230 meters of sidewalk to enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility. Residents and visitors will also see a significant increase in parking options. A new three-way traffic stop at Co-op Avenue and Station Street will further bolster traffic management, reduce congestion and potential accidents.
In addition to the road and sidewalk enhancements, the project encompasses crucial underground infrastructure improvements to our sanitary sewer, storm sewer, reclaimed water, and potable water systems. These upgrades will enhance the reliability and efficiency of our utilities and ensure more efficient transportation.
