2020 Property Tax Notices

Type: Public Notice

Property Notices for 2020 are in the Mail for the Town of Oliver

Oliver property owners will be receiving property tax notices in the mail in the coming days, with taxes due on July 2, 2020.

If you have not received your notice by the first week of June, be sure to contact Town Hall at (250) 485 6203.  Town Hall will be open to the public at 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. starting on June 1, however the Town strongly encourages that residents try to pay their property taxes through online banking, and claim home owner grants through the Town’s website at www.oliver.ca.

Oliver Council has taken additional action to support citizens and businesses by reducing the 9% Property Tax increase approved for 2020 to NIL.  Also to assign the 2020 Property Tax Rates with a due date of July 2nd with a one percent (1%) penalty applied on July 3rd and a four percent (4%) penalty applied October 1st. Commercial businesses have until September 30 to pay their taxes, and the penalty of five percent (5%) will be applied October 1st.

By reducing and deferring penalties, Council is doing everything within their power as a local government to provide some financial relief. Residents who are able to meet the July 2nd deadline are strongly encouraged to do so as the Town must submit payment for taxes due, on behalf of other agencies by August 1st whether the funds have been received or not. The total payment due to the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen and Regional Hospital District is approximately $1.9 million.

A new Property Tax Deferment Program has been launched through an online application through eTaxBC – applications are no longer accepted at Town Hall.  Deferring your taxes is easier as it eliminates paper forms and auto-renewing is easy and simple.

Those who are not currently enrolled in the pre-authorized payment plan can to so by contacting the Town’s Finance Department at (250) 485 6203 to obtain an application form. Monthly tax payments are made with banking institutions through pre-authorized debits on the 15th of each month, starting in July 2020 for the 2021 taxation year.
