Oliver Council Contributes $8,000 towards newer vehicle
Oliver Crime Watch received $8,000 from the Town of Oliver to financially support the purchase of a newer vehicle.
Mayor Johansen joins Oliver Crime Watch out on patrols in the community and agrees with Crime Watch that the existing truck previously donated by the Town no longer meet their needs. “Oliver Crime Watch does important work for the community and surrounding Area C, said Johansen. “The volunteers support the work of the RCMP through their regular patrols and setting up Speed Watch programs”.
Shirley Zelinski, Oliver Crime Watch President accepted the cheque from Mayor Johansen stating “The Crime Watch Executive extend their thanks to Oliver, RDOS, community businesses and resident volunteers who focus on the common goal of creating a safer and more secure community. Everyone
worked hard towards this achievement”. Zelinski also thanked Oliver Car & Truck Sales for their service.
Funds to support Crime Watch have been taken from reserves. Crime Watch has been successful in receiving $5,000 from Electoral Area C Director Rick Knodel through the RDOS Grant in Aid program, together with commitments from Area 27 ($5,000), Vinters Cove Winery ($5,000), and from Oliver Crime Watch ($4,000) for a total of $27,000.00.
